Former ICC is now FMCSA

In the “olden days” (just a few decades ago, really), if you wanted to own and drive a truck for hire across state lines, you needed to have an ICC authority, from the Interstate Commerce Commision. It was basically a permit that allowed you to work across state borders (you didn’t need one if you were going to haul strictly intra-state, that is, totally within one state). But the ICC was abolished in 1996 and replaced with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and now you need to have what’s called a Motor Carrier Number (also known as an MC Number).
