My Dad’s Crazy Job

In the twenty-five years my dad has been employed, his company has changed ownership at least four times. With each new owner comes new ideas and restructuring. The last company who bought the business hired the services of an outplacement consultant to decide who would stay, who would go, and whose job titles would be revised. Many people were shifted around, and an unlucky percentage were laid off. Before the process started, workers on the floor were given an option for early retirement or voluntary lay off. Some, my dad included, did take up on one of those two options, which I imagine made the process a little easier. Change in any capacity is never easy.
