How to Stop Drinking Alcohol

If you want to stop drinking alcohol then the first step is to admit that you have a problem.  This can be difficult for people because most of us have a lot of pride that will prevent us from admitting that alcohol has got us beat.

Unfortunately there is no shortcut to making this admission.  We can try to convince someone to break through this denial and admit to their problem but it will not help until they finally accept their disease on a very deep level for themselves.

The second step to successfully stop drinking is in taking action.  If you want to change your life then you can’t do it by sitting on the couch all day.  Get to a meeting, go to a treatment center, ask a therapist or counselor for help–whatever it takes.  The key is that you have to actually do something in order to make this work for you.

Finally, you must follow through in order to achieve long term sobriety.  Most people can get a couple days sober but if you don’t follow through with a concrete recovery plan then you’ll end up drinking again.
