.edu link Alone Does Not Give You Higher Ranking

A lot of people think that the search engines like Google and Yahoo give more weight to .edu links than they do to other sites.  This is not true.  Apparently their algorithms don’t truly give more weight to the .edu linked sites.  What happens, however, is that Google and Yahoo recognize that the sites linked to .edu websites have better, higher quality content, and therefore, have earned their place in the higher page rankings.  No search engine out there gives higher ranking to a site just because it’s linked to an .edu site.  Obviously, if this works for you, it’s because you’ve taken the time to put good content on your page.
