Witness a Rare Liger in Gore Springs, Mississippi

Ligers are the offspring of nature’s rare pairing between a lion and tiger.  Cougar Haven in Gore Springs, Mississippi is home to one such animal.  “Freckles”, as the liger is named, is one of only eleven existing ligers today.Cougar Haven houses more than twenty exotic cats.  In addition to Freckles, there are seven cougars, seven lions and seven tigers onsite.  Owner David Mallory constructed the sanctuary to rescue abused cats, or those whose owners determined they were unable to care for them. The cats consume a total of fifteen cases of chicken per week, and require $400 for daily operations on a weekly basis.  This figure does not include shelter upkeep and costly veterinary bills, however.  Mallory depends on non-profit support and donations from visitors to continue operating his prized possession.Wonderful picture-taking opportunities and souvenirs allow a visit to the big cat sanctuary to be a memorable experience.  Children and adults alike enjoy viewing the animals in an environment designed to be as closely related to their natural habitat as possible. As a full-time logging contractor, Mallory requests appointments to view the rare animals.  His rural property located at 39 Dobbs Road can accommodate groups with some advance notice.  Mr. Mallory may be reached at (662)226-0746 to request an appointment.
