Derbyshire’s Economy
The large number of natural resources in Derbyshire have had a profound effect on its economy. Lead, iron, coal and limestone are just some of the rich natural resouces that the region has to offer. Large quarries have been established to supply neighbouring towns and cities with lime for various activities such as steal making and building projects. Another area which the region is active in is the manufacturing of cement. The demand for building stone exploded during the industrial revolution, and the demand is still in existance, with crushed stone and concrete being supplied for the purpose of road building. Certain areas within Derbyshire where limestone is found, the stone contains veins of lead ore, something which has been around since the Roman times. The fact that Deryshire economy relies heavily on natural resources means that these are in plentiful supply and as lead, iron, coal and limestone are mined, these replenish themselves over the years.
